MARIO ARMSTRONG

By: T M Johnson

I think I've found "my hero" or at least a tech pro who incorporates all the various things that I myself would like to be apart of. This Technology hero's name is: Mario Armstrong you may have seen him on CNN, CBS, or heard a podcast of him on a tech related subject. Mario being an African American from the city of Maryland has excelled in ways that I wasn't sure was possible in the tech world. He caught my attention once or twice when I saw him talking tech on CNN but I think the real clincher was when he won the 2011 Emmy for the "Best TV show" host, from that point forward I could see that his hard work was producing phenomenal results and I had to follow him a little more closely.  Yesterday I viewed him doing wall to wall coverage on the Consumer Electronics Show which I did a quick post on and later that day had the pleasure of viewing: Innovation Nation on CNN where they talk to a richly diverse panel of results oriented start up business owners.

Please visit Mario Armstrong's website and the website of other Technology based websites supporting and encouraging African Americans too further their career in technology.

So as a techy you should be excited! As a consumer you should be excited as well and this blog is going to cover some of the crazy gadgets and innovations you may see soon!

The event taking place in London is reported to be the size of 33 football fields and be featuring over 2700 exhibitors!!!

Here is a few that you can expect to see on  guest list

Here are some of the new or improved technologies we've heard from these companies:

Ford Cloud Evo
Scheduled to make its full debut at the 2012 conference in
January Ford is going to be using "cloud computing" and a sleek new design will be bringing some of the convenience and comfort to drivers everywhere.

"Through integration of on-board data about driver preferences with cloud-based information such as work schedules, music and weather conditions, and local data delivered through vehicle-to-vehicle communications, Evos Concept aims to make life simpler. "The car gets to know you and can act as a personal assistant to handle some of the usual routines of a daily commute," said Mascarenas more..."

Intel Insider
Doesn't Intel make processors and computer hardware? Yes they sure do and as a matter of fact when you get a whiff of the "Intel Insider" you will need a 2nd generation processor to actually create the HD quality picture that you will be able to produce from your computer monitor!

You can also install the processor on a compatible computing device and begin receiving HD quality signals, producing a euphoric cinematic experience right from home more

Sony 3D Blogger Camera
Sony a household name, almost like a family pet is re introducing the 3D blogger camera. If nothing else you can suspect that this camera will be taking pictures in 3D possibly using some sort of "firewire" or "fiber optics" cord to transfer data from the camera to your computer. If nothing else I think it will be cool more

Internet Based Appliances
We all know that this is the year of the tablet and mobile devices, mobile media, and mobile commerce which most people are expecting. While you may heard some buzz about internet based appliances you may want to give it a little bit more of serious thought it looks as if though tech companies are gravitating in the direction of connecting home appliances on the internet.

Why? Well the short answer is techs can troubleshoot from the office regarding your washing machine, refrigerator etc. , imagine being a able to organize and know what foods your are low on before you open the fridge, keeping abreast to safe temperatures and creating the most efficient environment for your food. Some people may regard this as excessive use of technology and yeah you have the right to be a little uncomfortable with it but these technological advances go with the saying: "Its better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it!"

Groupon IPO Prices 35M Shares At $20 Each: Report

I happen to be searching the internet for tech worthy topics and it just wouldn't be right if I didnt repost this article about "Groupon" . If anyone knows about "Groupon" , which everyone should by now. It is a company founded on the idea of "Couponing" as a resource for groups of individuals to purchase from businesses as a tool of "mass marketing". It is quite ingenious and the public at large thought so too! In the first quarter of this year Groupon made 1.5 billion and was able to boldly turn down a 7 billion dollar deal from Google before they went public.  Groupon has paved the way for business' like Poggle, Living Social, Yelp and mobile companies like IZIGG to offer customers the option of getting great discounts from their favorite business' and inspiring repeat business. With that being said here is the article published by "Forbes" :

Groupon has priced its IPO at $20 per share, offering 35 million shares, according to AllThingsD. That’s above the expected 30 million shares with a range of $16 -$18.
The offering is 10 times oversubscribed, reports AllThingsD’s Kara Swisher. The deal would total $700 million, up from an expected $540 million.Groupon’s IPO has been one of the most highly anticipated of the year. Groupon has been described (in this magazine and elsewhere) as the fastest growing company in history more

Scientists Build Artificial Leg From Smartphone Parts

By Margaret Rock

Researchers at Vanderbilt University created a more agile prosthetic leg using smartphone innovations, the latest example of how mobile technology is propelling medical advances.
The Vanderbilt leg, weighing in less than most lower limbs at nine pounds, is unique in its ability to use computer, sensor, motor, and battery technology to better power knee and ankle joints in unison, allowing amputees to walk with a more natural gait. The prosthetic leg also senses ground slope and avoids obstructions to optimize balance.

The researchers' seven-year effort harnesses several technological advances made possible by smartphones, including microprocessors that use data to predict people's intended actions and prompts the device to respond. And, on one charge, the device can function at normal levels for about three days, requiring 30 to 40 percent less than an average person's energy to operate.more

Apple stock recovers from shock of Jobs resigning

NEW YORK (AP) — Investors in Apple on Thursday morning appeared to be getting over the worst of the shock of Steve Jobs resignation from the CEO post.

Apple shares were down $8.67, or 2.3 percent, at $367.51 in pre-market trading. That's half the loss seen in Thursday's extended trading, after Apple said Jobs would be ceding the CEO job to Tim Cook.
Analyst tried to soothe investors with a reminder that Jobs' departure was expected due to his health problems, even if the timing was not certain.

Peter Misek at Jefferies & Co. said it was a "very positive" sign that Jobs will assume the role of chairman. Misek had expected Jobs to depart completely from the company. As chairman, "Jobs will be able to continue to offer his insights and visions for the future of Apple."

Futures on the Nasdaq 100, which gets more than half its value from technology companies like Apple Inc., fell slightly before the opening bell. more

What!! Jobs quits his Job? As CEO of Apple

"Steve Jobs resigns as CEO of Apple"

He had a great run
In a letter he sent

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee more

DePaul University goes Mobile!

Strolling in from work I routinely check the mail as I always do once a week...lol. Low and behold I get a "mailer" from my Alumni association DePaul University, a private catholic school located in Chicago IL, in the diversely populated Lincoln Park area. I notice that the mailer talked about a fund: "The Moore Fund" requesting Alumni  donate and participate in what they call the Moore challenge. I scroll down to the bottom and what do I see? A QR code encouraging Alum to scan it, this scan will lead readers directly to the website straight from their handheld.

As a mobile media advocate I was impressed, even a private catholic institution such as DePaul recognizes the value in modernizing their messages and catering to the current audience. I thought hey that's progressive and their on the cutting edge of a "mobile media" shift that's fairly new... All in all I thought "DOPE" and wanted to share that with you guys.

More and more each day business, schools, restaurants, artist, marketers are using some form of mobile media too directly connect with their audience. It is a "cost effective" viral marketing strategy that has the propensity to generate a great deal of business and awareness. It really can't be ignored and for a business to remain relevant its obvious they have to get with the times and that's what DePaul did and I am proud of them!

Smartphones or Sex?

By Joe Arico

A national survey found that a third of Americans would rather give up sex than their smartphones, as mobile devices become even more rooted into people's lives.

The survey by Telenav found people are more likely to give up a variety of habits instead of their smartphones. More than 50 percent of people would rather give up caffeine, chocolate or exercise than part with their iPhones or Blackberrys for a week, while a hygienically questionable 22 percent would be willing to part with their toothbrushes more

The FBI released a free iPhone app called "Child ID" that offers to store information about children, which police can then reference in case of kidnapping. The app "provides a convenient place to electronically store photos and vital information about your children so that it's literally right at hand if you need it," according to an FBI press release.

People can even save such information as height and weight, in case police would ever need it to help search for them. The app offers a special tab as well so parents can instantly email authorities all the stored information with only a few clicks.
In addition, the free app offers tips for worried parents on what to do if their child goes missing more

Zynga Trying to Buy Angry Birds

By Sandy Fitzgerald | Fri Aug 12, 2011 1:22 pm

Zynga is rumored to be pursuing Rovio, maker of Angry Birds to create a powerhouse gaming company for both mobile and social networks.

Reports indicate Zynga, best known for its FarmVille game on Facebook, is in talks with Rovio. Zynga is in the market to add another gaming platform, after it last month lost a bidding war for PopCap games, which went to Electronic Arts.

There are benefits for both gaming giants if they form a partnership. Zynga's games attract about 148 million users on Facebook every day, but people mostly play the games online instead of downloading them more

Five Ways to Win a Sale Using Your Customer's Mobile

You can safely assume that nearly every person who interacts with your business has a mobile phone, smartphone or tablet computer on them. Mobile devices are always on and always ready for you to suggest mobile interactions that will move people closer to a purchase decision.
The first step in taking advantage of mobile devices is to think about every possible place where your business has a chance to interact with potential customers. For example:
• Viewing an ad
• Browsing the web
• Walking into your store
• Visiting your office
• Meeting you at a networking event
• Talking to a friend

Once you have a list of places where you typically interact with prospects and customers, compare your list with the following five mobile interactions to see which of them can help you to win a sale at the point of interaction or shortly thereafter.

1. Mobile Commerce
If someone is ready to buy at the point of interaction, you can win a sale by suggesting an immediate mobile purchase and payment. You can point people to a mobile website for a web-Some people who encounter your advertising, website or in-store products are ready to buy right away and aren’t necessarily expecting a convenient way to make an immediate purchase. You can offer a speedy customer experience and strike while the iron is hot, so to speak, by pointing people to a mobile website for a fast web-based purchase, or by swiping a customer’s credit card from anywhere using your own mobile device and a mobile payment service such as Intuit's GoPayment solution.

2. Mobile Discounts

Sometimes getting people to make a buying decision is as simple as offering a little extra value in return for acting immediately. Instead of promoting a coupon or discount offer to the masses, you can make your customers feel special by asking them to request an exclusive discount at the point-of-sale via a mobile device. For example, you can use a mobile text-messaging platform to enable mobile text coupons and then ask customers to text the words "your company coupon" to your short phone number (known as a shortcode). When they text-in, the system responds instantly with a coupon or discount offer just for them.

Motorola Interested in Windows Phone OS

Motorola Mobility is open to developing phones that run Windows Phone OS, as Microsoft's mobile platform begins to gain momentum.

Chief executive Sanjay Jha said the Libertyville, Ill.-based company would build handsets that run Windows Phone OS if it could strike a deal with Microsoft similar to the one the software giant made with Nokia.

Jha's comments are a bit of a departure from his February statement that Motorola intended to focus completely on Android. The CEO maintains the company's present focus is still on Android, but it appears he is open to a future where that may change.  More

"Technology is Fashion" by: Taleice J.

Technology is literally the fashion statement of the century! Don’t believe me? Have you ever walked into an “Apple Store” and observed the ambiance? Apple has this cool, futuristic, confidence that makes you feel silly for not buying anything! Apple’s “branding” strategy is un matched as it was reported that Apple net income is more than the entire United States! How is that for a deficit solution? And tell me what do you think of someone who has an IPAD over a regular tablet or someone who has an Iphone 4 versus a regular old Android? I’ll tell you what you think, you think “hey he/she is really cool!”  The type of cellular phone you have, electronic or computing device is now a tool to compliment your “swag”!

I believe it begin in the early 2000’s when two way pagers where beginning to be seen as a status symbol due to their appearance on the “Source” award show! So now that we know technology is indeed a fashion, a sort of accessory to our “swag” arsenal how can we leverage this so that we can make money? I’ll tell you how! Its reported that 50% of the population in the U.S is 30 and under and 90% of that population is on facebook, out of that demographic 90% of them prefer to text.  Mobile phone applications keep us interested in our mobile devices and wanting to use them more and more for every possible thing you can think of!

My company “Ne Media” realizes that mobile phones are an accessory developing into a “necessity”! That is why we stand behind the “Izigg’ brand, it is a tool that allows business’ to connect with customers through text and customers to connect with their favorite business’ through text. The format is pretty simple you’d text: “YOUR KEYWORD” to “90210”, 90210 is a  shortcode that is highly recognizable because of "Beverly Hills" 90210 and boom you’re in the business owner you prefer  mobile database.  Test it out! Text “nemedia” to 90210 and you’ll get an instant message from one of our managing partners.
